Ian Fisher

My mom passed away yesterday. She was my first friend and the source of my sensitivity. Her love was the foundation on which I built my life. I spent the last week by her side holding her hand. Now I’m surreally back in Europe and feel as if the solar system has lost a planet. Nothing on the ground has changed, but the gravity and orbitational pull of all things are different. I’ll pull through though. I’m not writing this in the hope of receiving condolences. I’m sharing this news on this impersonal platform because many of you, my friends, had the fortune to meet my mom and many of you, my friends, I haven’t nor will I see in the flesh for some time and I thought you should hear it from me and not through the grapevine. That being said, if you knew her personally or knew her vicariously through me, then please take a moment to think about her today. And in the future when you are faced with hardship, think about my mom and her humble positive fighter’s spirit and you can share her with me as your source of strength and love.

“Ian Fisher’s intimate album, “Burnt Tongue”, fights against meaninglessness with song. The veteran songwriter and newly naturalized European steps out of the shadows of his American past to expand his musical cosmos. Together with his expatriate band and the talented German producer, Jonas David, the prolific artist spent the winter recording in Sicily. The result of this international creative dialogue is a layered and detailed sound that adds a new depth to Ian Fisher’s music. His straightforward lyricism and unique, emotive voice are infused with David’s modern taste. A sound built on honest, traditional musical elements (vocals, acoustic guitar, and piano) and arranged in exciting and unexpected combinations (woodwinds, experimental effects, and synth). “Burnt Tongue” is an album of growth and change. It is a call to carry on.”

I’m releasing a song from the upcoming album tomorrow 🕊 It’s called “I’m Burning” and it’s got a bit of everything in it. Climate change awareness, bongos, references to Albert Camus. We reached our goal on Kickstarter last night! Thank you so much to everyone who supported the campaign and preordered the new album so far! As most of you know, these are really tough times to be an independent musician on a financial and existential level. Your support of me and my music doesn’t only keep me from having to get a job at McDonald’s, but it keeps me at least mildly sane. I hope that the music that I give back to you helps similarly. The new album, “Burnt Tongue” will be printed on orange marbled vinyl 🧡 Contrary to popular belief, the title did not come from eating too many scalding hot pizzas or drinking a million coffees while recording in Sicily. It comes from a story I tell in one of the songs on the album about a night in my teens when my friends and I tried to start a fire with wet driftwood on the banks of the Mississippi. We covered the wood in gas and, when I went to light it, the vapor ignited in my face. The vinyl is the same color of what the inside of the flames looked like 🔥
